2. The farrowing house must have a good house drainage system and each house needs to have a separate piglet supplementary feeding area to ensure the comfort of the piglets without overheating the sow area.

3. Weaning piglets On smaller farms, the weaning piglet area is part of the farrowing house. However, on large farms, there should be one or several dedicated weaning piglets to provide the warm environment that the weaned piglets prefer. Weanling piglets must be kept especially clean to keep them healthy. The traditional practice is to use ample bedding and frequent cleaning of the barn. Now, pens with slits, perforations or mesh floors (without bedding) are also sufficient to keep piglets clean.

4. The use of narrow and long pens for growing and finishing pigs is helpful for growth. Smaller pens (1.5m x 4.8m) can house 20 growing pigs or 10 finishing pigs. Larger pens can accommodate larger groups to match, but the length of the pens must be kept at least 2.5 times the width. Fully seamed floors keep pigs cleaner. If only partially slatted floors are used, a small amount of hoof damage may occur, but weight gain can be improved and feed saved. If the whole house partition is used to surround the three sides of the sleeping area, and the open partition or door is used to separate the defecation and urination areas, the pigs can also develop good defecation habits.
